MAWV’s Halal Meat Initiative stands as one of our most meaningful efforts to uphold the religious dignity, dietary needs, and spiritual comfort of our growing Muslim community. Access to authentic halal food is not just a preference—it is a core component of our faith and identity. Recognizing how essential this is for our students, families, and professionals, we stepped forward to advocate for reliable halal options in places where our community spends much of its daily life.
Through determined outreach and ongoing negotiations, we have successfully partnered with meat suppliers who meet strict halal standards, ensuring that schools and institutions can serve meals aligned with Islamic dietary guidelines. With the Grace of God, this initiative has already borne fruit: WBA Wilkes-Barre Academy and SEM School now offer halal food to their students. These victories reflect both our commitment and the trust local institutions have placed in us as a voice for the community.
Our efforts do not stop here. MAWV is actively engaged in discussions with Crestwood School District, Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and Geisinger to extend halal options even further. These conversations hold enormous potential—because providing halal food in schools, hospitals, and workplaces ensures that Muslim students, patients, and employees can live with dignity without compromising their beliefs. Each partnership we build gradually reshapes our region into a more inclusive, understanding, and respectful environment for all.
This initiative is about more than food—it is about identity, rights, and belonging. It ensures that our children grow up confident in their faith, that patients heal with comfort, and that families feel seen and valued.
